A Story About Love
Tomorrow the color of the day will start to turn red for it is the first day of the month that is known to be the "month of love". It is called the month of love not because my birthday falls on the month of February but because every 14th day of this month, most lovers or couples all over the world celebrates this day by expressing how much they loved each other in various ways and means.
There are many stories behind why there is such a day called Valentine's Day. From what I learned from my religious education or christian living subjects during my high school and college years, Valentine's Day is the day we celebrate the feast of Saint Valentine. So who is Saint Valentine? What is his story? Why is his feast celebrated as the day of love? Searching around google I found out that there is no definite answer as to who Saint Valentine is. One Wikipedia page shows that there are three possible martyrs that could be referred to as Saint Valentine: a priest in Rome, a bishop of Interamna(modern Terni) and could be the martyr in the Roman province of Africa. As to why it became a day of love? A friend of mine have mentioned a story about this in one of his article at braincontour.com.
Too many stories about Valentine's Day isn't it? But whatever is the real story about this day, I would say, what matters most is that this day is positively celebrated as the LOVE Day. But Valentine's Day is not just a day for couples to express their love to each other. Let us not limit it there. Let us also express how much we love our parents, and parents to express how much you love your children, and for friends to show how much you value each other. This way, no one will be sent to the "execution line for firing squad". Before I was married, I used to treat my parents(sometimes they're the ones that treat me) for a date in one of the finest restaurant in city. But now that I'm married, we do not just celebrate valentine's day every February 14, but everyday is a LOVE day for me and my wife. Everyday telling and showing how much we love each other and remain textmates and chatmates like when we first started.
But friends, keeping your love grow sweeter and sweeter everyday in your relationship is only part of the ingredient to a solid and lasting relationship... But the main secret is on how both of you learn to love God more than you love each other and how both of you center your relationship around God. Lastly, its also interesting to know what does the Bible teach us about love. Here are some of the verses I found that speak about love:
1 John 4:7-8 "Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love."
1 Corinthians 13:4 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud."
Luke 6:27 "But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you."
Matthew 5:44 "But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."
John 13:35 "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
John 15:12 "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you."
Ephesians 5:33 "However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband."
